Winter Wilson in Concert
8pm start
Winter Wilson comes to Alford bringing songs & stories from two well-travelled troubadours. This year alone they have performed all around the UK, completed their second tour of Australia, performed in Spain and in a few weeks they set off to tour Canada (via Belgium!). Their show features songs from 'Live & Unconventional', the album recorded live on last year's UK tour with folk rock legends Fairport Convention.

But it is in live performance that these two really excel, interspersing great songs, stunning harmonies and fine musicianship with often hilarious tales of life on the road. That's why so many venues and festivals book them time and time again.

A Requeim - combination of jazz and poetry

Following the outstanding success of his acclaimed jazz suite Fish Tales, comes, A Requiem, an exciting and ambitious commission of new music which brings together the dynamic compositional talents of the multi-award winning reeds player Alan Barnes, and guitarist Pat McCarthy, plus the creative imagination of poet Josie Moon.

Featuring a stellar line-up of international jazz musicians, A Requiem examines the impact of conflict on individuals across a century, and is an audacious, daring challenging, moving, but ultimately uplifting and soulful work, which invites the audience to both remember the history of conflict, and resolve to do better in the future.

Alan Barnes is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist. Best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax, he combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers.

Pat McCarthy is regarded as one of the country's leading jazz guitar players, and also an outstanding composer and educator. He has led his own bands, and played and recorded with some of the top names in the jazz world.

Author, poet, composer, musician and singer, the very talented Josie Moon brings as much to the reading of her work as to the writing of it. Her poetry brings to life and complements the music of A Requiem.

'Burden of Paradise' featuring Snake Davis
7pm for 7.45pm start
BOP3
Helen Watson Snake Davis Dave Bowie
Sax man Snake hits the road in 2019 with his almost acoustic line-up “Burden of Paradise” for a series of intimate concerts.
Snake played the sax solo on Take That’s “Million Love Songs”, Lisa Stansfields hits, M-Peoples hits and was part of the most recent Eurythmics world tour. BoP was formed seven years ago with three of his very favorite musician friends.
Breathtaking skill, warm co-operation and witty anarchic banter. BoP invites its audience into a world of tenderness, virtuosity and human frailty.
No drums. Just voice, saxophone and a pulsing engine room of double bass and guitar. BoP’s unique interpretations of evocative songs from Dylan to Dowland are spell-binding.
We are all in paradise, if only we knew it. The burden is to accept it.
What exactly is the Burden Of Paradise’s secret? A stylish blend of precisely 47% blues, 35% folk and 18% jazz.

“Snake Davis has one of the most passionate sax styles and simple bluesy approaches a-la-Sanborn heard in these isles for a while”. TIME OUT.

“A virtuoso saxophonist”. DAILY TELEGRAPH

“A brilliant sax player who could wail like the best American players, but was at his best weaving around slow ballads, won deserved acclaim” BLUES + SOUL

“He doesn't mess about.” THE GUARDIAN

“Snake is a joy to work along side. His musical skills have no limit, in fact he is as free as a bird.” DAVE STEWART (Eurythmics)

“a feast of humour and great music. I felt very, very privileged.” "truly wonderful evening” “such brilliant and modest artists”
